I've always been a fan of the BF series. For me BF2142 was the one that really got me proper hooked, and I've thoroughly enjoyed BFBC2 on PS3. :)

So who's getting BF3? What platform will you go for?

I like the ease of use on PS3, but don't have one of those anymore... :( I know everyone craps on about how a mouse and keyboard is way more accurate. But comfort wise, I actually prefer the controller. Using a mouse for ages and particularly small, precise movements is bad for you... Although I'm pretty sure my new PC would run BF3 nicely and obviously the PC version will be superior in some, if not many ways.

Initially I wasn't that fussed on getting it, I was still happy with BFBC2, and really BF3 game-play sounds very similar. But now I don't have BFBC2 anymore either :( it makes more sense to purchase a new game than re-aquire on old one. :|

So yea I'm still quite undecided. :/

I'll be picking up the PC version on Thursday, it's not so much the mouse/keyboard combo that swayed me as the step up in visual quality on the PC, if your system can handle it maxed, it's gonna look :):):):) hot, I'm worried mine won't but I'll be upgrading when the next generation of GPU's come out early next year, even with a few settings turned down it's gonna :):):):) on the console versions graphically.

The PC version will also allow for 64 player matches as opposed to 30 odd on the consoles (can't remember the exact number), but still, I'd be inclined to go for the version most of your mates will be on, I mean, the console versions don't look bad by any means and 30 odd players is still alot, for this reason I'll probably still grab the 360 version at some point, if indeed my mates get into it.

The game is getting a good reception so far too which is good to see.

Cheers guys. Yea Pies sounds good, I'll look into it. Have to get a new PS3 first.

I was thinking, with insurance money, I might even consider a copy on both platforms. Like you say Snake, the PC version will be graphically awesome and I'm pretty sure my i5 and HD6970 will run it at pretty high settings, but I reckon I'd have more people to squad up with on PS3 than PC, certainly initially anyway. I used to be in the 45th Tigers for BF2142 but that was ages ago, not sure I'd even know anyone still there and wasn't realy chummy so not at all fussed about going back to a PC clan.

One of my other concerns is the prevolence of hackers on PC (even heaps already just in the beta apparantly).
Yea the reception so far does sound pretty good. Nothing absolutely ground breaking but a good solid, balanced game, combining the best aspects of the series so far with some stand out graphics and a 'white knuckle' experience by most reports.

I'd like to see some screen shots from both before I committed either way...

I know what you mean about hackers man, bloody frustrating, I had a brief stint of Crysis 2 multi and had a few matches which were marred by dip:):):):) hackers, ruins it for everyone.

From what I've read critics seem to say the BF3 campaign is good but nothing outstanding, but the multi, which, let's be honest, is what we're buying it for, is unmatched, let's hope so, I don't think there's any doubting though that it will be good.

Koastr your GPU would be the only thing stopping you from maxing BF3 out, your CPU would have no worries but I've read that you'd want dual GTX580's in order to max it out with a smooth avg frame rate, my card is a Radeon HD5970, last gen but still effectively a dual 5870 setup which were AMD's fastest single GPU cards last gen (basically sits between 6970 and 6990 in performance terms), and I don't think I'll be playing BF3 maxed out, it will not be kind to our hardware.

I've never been a big fan of any of the previous games in the series (BF or COD), but there's so much hype on this one that I might just get on the bandwagon this time too.

As for platform, I've got a whole box of PC parts that turned up yesterday so I reckon BF3 might be good chance to give it a test out. Nothing over the top, i5 and 6870; just gotta put it all together first.
That will be next weeks job coz i've got the week off, woot.

I've tried both. Completely over CoD, never really like the multi-player that much. "camp of duty" I used to call it.

Very little incentive to encourage squad play. Running around in 'headless chicken mode' until you come up behind someone on the limited and rather circular maps, with ridiculously fast 'flying' melee kills, hugely varying pings within a given lobby giving some players massive advantage, ridiculous 'perks' to reward players that are already cleaning up. Not my cup of tea.

I also got a bit put off by the blatant commercialism. Following MW1, the successive CoD titles came out sooo quickly, and with the limited campaign length, number of multiplayer maps (without paying for DLC), and the fact each one didn't really offer anything new, just a different era, I felt ripped off by the time I'd given MW2 a good bash. Didn't bother with black ops.

Destructable and more expansive envirmonments are the real clincher too. Without it the world seems so stale.
    That's not even mentioning vehicles....

Not that CoD is without good points, or that BF is without faults. Just personal preference.

I'll be getting Battlefield 3 on PC and most likely MW3 on PS3.

From what i've heard BF3 is geared up for PC and MW3 for console so i'll buy them on their appropriate platforms.

Sounds like a good way to go Mad, if what you say is true.

Beau, didn't you make some kind of promise not to go back to the dark side of gaming - FPSers?!

Will be getting on PC, Played all of BF games since 1942. BF2 was great but BFBC and BFBC2 were console crap IMO. Beta was fun so looking forward to picking up my preorder.

If I get MW3 it wll get on xbox (its more a console game nowdays) plus I have a maxshooter that allows my to use a keyboard and mouse on xbox. It works real well with CoD.

Battlefield 3 is indeed developed with PC as the lead platform Koastr, I read yesterday that the ground area in the maps has actually been cut back on the consoles, largely due to the smaller amount of players in a match, I checked out the beta on the 360 and thought the Operation Metro map was still huge..

Yes I said something like that. I'll try to avoid the online side as much as possible. I'm just keen to enjoy the single player campaign, because I've followed the series so, why not? :D

    Hehe cool Beau

I thought as much. BF2142 was exclusively PC (as with the original 1942 which I only dabbled with offline), and BF2 had a version on console, but from what I heard it was barely the same game.... BF2142 is still probably my favourite to date, if that came back with destructable environments and BF3 gen. graphics... whew, epic. Good by real life.

Haven't been able to before, and with the inherent differences in player quota and maps sizes I strongly doubt this is changing in BF3.

I'm getting BF3 on PC. It's one of the games I had in mind when I upgraded my gaming rig at the start of the year. I've put alot of cash into it, lol. I've been a big fan of BF since BF1942. Oh and Beau, apparently the single player isn't much chop...seriously though, who buys a BF game for the singleplayer??? The first 2 games didn't even have a campaign.
