    hi Guys,

Just after some info on mic's during the race series i am keen to get involved in (series 3)

Was online monday night, and was told by some of the guys that i should turn off my mic because of the noise of my wheel in the background.

Is there anyway to overcome this problem, or should i just turn it off . I did read that chat is not recommended while racing, but how does everyone else stop the background noise of your wheel being heard by the other players????

    Thanks in advance
    Stuart

If I remember I mute everyone before the start of the race, I feel is reduces the lag as well. You can mute people including yourself (i think) by selecting their names in the top right in the racing lounge.

Im not sure you can reduce the noise on the wheel, in my division theres guys with mics,if it gets really bad we might ask them to put it on mute but generally its not a problem

Stop driving like a Granny with your chin on the wheel.lol

You could adjust your mic volume down a step. Or put a foam cover over mic as a filter. Buy a G27 with quieter gears.

I think its good etiquette to keep talk to a minimum during a race but is is handy for people to give notice of passing intentions etc. As for wheel noise what mike you got? if its the ps3 mike you cant adjust it but other mikes you can try setting it to 3 should help a bit.

I'll second this. My mic is set to 3 or 4 too.

Personally I use the mute button on my mic. A quick one-fingered push of a button during the race and I can still give a quick 'sorry' if it's required then mute again to ensure I don't distract others with background noise.

Yep exactly what i do, the ps3 mic is good for muting and the settings are displayed on screen, good for letting you know if its on or off too.

By all means have it on for Season races, for the occasional 'sorry' or whatever. Just make sure you don't have constant background noise distracting other drivers all race.. use the mute button on your mic until you need to speak for instance.
But with larger rooms (12 - 16 drivers) your host may disable voice chat altogether before setting up the lounge to ensure lag is minmised.

thanks for the clear outlines on the mic etiguette cheers Koastr.
i think it should be no mics at all in races, warm ups and quals is good.
not that i'm a bad/dirty driver. sometimes bonus just gets in the way :rolleyes:
is there any in race penlaties for bad/dirty driving?

Potentially yes, you may be reported (or report others). Then an admin will review the race and if the complaint is genuine a points or time penalty may be applied, or even disqualification from the race.

    So please race fairly.

Please don't frivolously report people as it takes a chunk of (not so fun) time for admins to review races, especially without a fast forward/rewind feature. So only report if you honestly think you have been hard done by.

To add to what Outta said...

Firstly, please review the replay yourself before taking it any further, then try and resolve it with the other driver privately. You may get a different perspective on the incident and avoid an admin review altogether.
