Cypress Point Club Front 9
Hole 1: Par 4, 383m, HCP 4
Blast your drive over the trees on this downhill Par 4 to leave an easy pitch onto a green that slopes severely from right to left. Aim below the hole to leave a makable birdie putt.
Hole 2: Par 5, 515m, HCP 14
Keep your tee shot right on this uphill Par 5 to leave an open approach to a small green. The fairway bunkers don’t come into play so there is no reason to not go for the green. A series of bunkers left and right protect the green. Use the banking on the right to your advantage.
Hole 3: Par 3, 141m, HCP 8
Depending on the pin placement, this hole can be very easy or very hard. Fire a short iron into a green with a hard slope toward the centre and a false front. Bunkers protect the green on all sides. A bogey will be very costly here.
Hole 4: Par 4, 356m, HCP 6
The 4th is an uphill Par 4 that heads inland. Keep the tee shot to the left to avoid the bunkers on the right approximately 250m from the tee. The bunkers that protect this green don’t come into play as you will be attacking this green with a wedge in hand. The green slopes massively toward the front, so take your time lining up your putt.
Hole 5: Par 5, 449m, HCP 18
Those looking to make up strokes will be gunning for a birdie or even better on this very short dogleg left Par 5. Land your drive between the bunkers to leave a short iron into a two tiered green. Get it on the right level and an eagle chance beckons.
Hole 6: Par 5, 479m, HCP 16
Another short dogleg left Par 5, if you can thread the needle off the tee you’ll have an easier shot into this tiny green. Lay up short of the bunker and you’ll have a long second. The downhill shot needs to be hit dead on to avoid rolling off to the side, and the waste area to the rear. Once again this is a hole that provides an easy birdie.
Hole 7: Par 3, 156m, HCP 2
The 7th is a Par 3 that requires a well controlled iron shot. A huge false front is the danger here as coming up short will see your ball roll back down the hill and leave you with an extremely difficult up and down. Par is adequate here.
Hole 8: Par 4, 329m, HCP 12
8 is an exciting short Par 4. The safe play is to hit an iron off the tee, but risk takers will hit a faded driver into a receptive green. However those going for an eagle will likely have a long putt with severe slopes everywhere. Pins to the left will make for a much easier approach.
Hole 9: Par 4, 267m, HCP 10
Yet another short hole, you probably wont hold the green going for it off the tee. The safe play with a fairway wood will still leave a short pitch onto an extremely shallow green that slopes hard right. Eagles are a rarity here if the pin is tucked to the left, so playing safe isn’t frowned upon… to most.
