I am so surprised and elated about securing provisional pole in this absolute elite company. Even with the 2% weight advantage I had on all the top class drivers, I still consider this my pinnacle moment in 5+ years of racing with ROOZ. I expect to probably start 5th after the shootout, and gradually go backwards in the race. But as long as I finish, even last, the smile will still be on my dial.
Massive thank you to everyone who made Qualifying such a smooth and fun experience! Massive congratualtions to the 15 drivers who will be taking part in the shootout and I wish you all the best of luck! I also want to give a massive shoutout to those of you who kept me well informed of your pace and reached out for suggestions as well as giving me the information I need to keep this grid as close as it is! I will brief the Shootout runners on Saturday morning to ensure there are no hiccups in this FULLY STREAMED SHOOTOUT! Please to keep up to date with it all, Follow my Twitch twitch.tv/Viperzed Links will also be availible on the RaceOnOz facebook page. Thanks everyone!
Bloody sensational mate! Let's give this fella a huge round of applause!!! Looking forward to tuning in to the top 5 shoot-outs. It's going to be freaking cool as!!!
OOF!!! This is the weight for the shootout? Will you be giving us a run down of how it will all work? Thanks for hosting the qualifying, I don't envy the work you must be doing behind the scenes... I've been there and know what it's like... there's a lot that most people don't realise, and how many hours goes into it. So a huge thanks for your effort. See you fellow shootout contenders Saturday night!
Thanks mate, nailed two laps in the session that were both faster than I'd done in the lead up ... 58.9 was my best before qualifying.
Indeed it is. Same deal as usual, Keep me updated on the times you can acheive if possible. Room 3 had quite a large spread at the top thanks to a quite simply ridiculous lap from @rollscanhardly The weight will hurt but it will also make the race incredibly competitive
No problems re the weight, it is what it is. I probably wont be able to practice before Saturday night really with SCNG on tonight, and probably should have a day or two off GT Sport lol. I'll see you then
Can answer that one myself. Yes. I attempted to orchestrate a move to Room 1 given to perfect similarity in lap times, however there are no spots availible in Room 1, Similarly in Room 2 there is already a Corvette present therefore i've done what I can to account for Rolls' incredible pace and keep him highly competitive in Room 3.
The problem is i am now going to have is that my tune is going to be useless as it was set up for the weight i was given. i am now going to have to set up the car again from scratch as all my dampening and rebounds diff settings were made to suit the weight of the car. i will just now have to see what it can do as i know that with the extra weight it is near impossible to catch or stay in lighter cars slipstreams as i found in the 1st round of the scng series where i had a 3% weight disadvantage and it totally changes the handling characteristics of the car and tyre wear. i will try and see what i can sort out with it between now and the race.
It's a horrible situation to be in mate, I too can relate to being in a similar situation in SCNG. I've got no doubt you have the ability as a driver to overcome the weight disadvantage. The weight added has been run in tests and found to be on par with what we've tried to achieve but obviously with the differences in setup, this has potential to change. I really do commend you on your ability to squeeze a mid 58 out of that car, Your qualifying lap itself is something to be incredibly proud of but this being a competitive ballast event, I will do everything I can to keep all 3 rooms as close as possible.
I am very happy with the way i was able to get the vette into the 58's and i guess i will now have to wait and see how much the extra weight will slow the car down especially over the top of the mountain as that is where i was able to tune the car the most to be able to not lift off the throttle and really make up time as i am still using the factory gearbox settings so straight line speed is now also going to be heavily affected by the weight gain
One tip I can give you from watching your laps is to shift earlier in the revs. The Corvette is a bottom end heavy car and it's best shifted just past the halfway mark on the rev bar. Please let me know how your trial runs go, These weight changes don't work for everyone and I want to keep you as competitive as possible. The aim is to have Room 3 running high 59s at the fastest in the shootout for reference.
