DRIVER BRIEFING NOTES - Round 8
    • Let's make the starting formation better - The admin team is taking a closer look at driver's positions at race starts as we have noticed that some cars are getting away with being out of position. Driver's need to be side by side with their row partner and must maintain a reasonable gap to the cars ahead prior to the lights going green. The Kunos start system isn't perfect and still allows cars to be a fair way out of place by the time the lights go green so we will be reviewing starts as a matter of procedure from now on. We will issue warnings or penalties to drivers that we believe are gaining an unfair advantage or disadvantaging other drivers by being out of position. We'd also like drivers to stop all weaving and brake warming as soon as the double file segment begins. These sorts of sloppy grid formations can lead to major crashes in the first few corners so we'd like to clean that up.

    • Wacky Wednesday League Practice - Every Wednesday night we host a semi-closed practice evening ahead of the upcoming Season 4 championship round. These are very informal and chilled out practice sessions where you can come in and try out set-ups, chat and have some fun racing without worrying about your championship points (this is separate to the 24/7 practice server which is always available). Importantly you can practice close racing moves with far less pressure and less consequence than Monday nights and we particularly encourage those newer to sim racing to join in. There are often excellent tips from some of our top pro drivers too. More info in the Wacky Wednesday League Practice thread.
    DRIVER BRIEFING NOTES - Previous
    • Avoiding High Risk Moves... Take 2 - We just thought we'd repeat what we said last week. Over the past several rounds there have been a few incidents of high risk GT3/GT4 passing attempts that have resulted in cars becoming three-wide approaching critical corners. Unsurprisingly they have not generally ended well. Any three-wide situation means that the inside and outside cars cannot see each other and the central car has very limited options. On a long straight this can work, however approaching corners it is a bad idea. No car can reasonably anticipate the moves of the other cars and more often than not a collision occurs. We ask all drivers to avoid these sorts of high risk moves.
    • Lap 1 accidents - some drivers have expressed frustration at the number of lap 1 accidents that are occurring. Although that frustration is understandable there is evidence that things are improving. It is not realistic to completely eliminate such incidents but everyone seems to have the right attitude so we may not be too far away from cleaner opening laps. Note that being too cautious is almost as bad as not cautious enough and it can be a fine line. Doing more race practice (ie joining us on Wacky Wednesdays) is one of the best ways to improve close racing skills.

So when in a tight pack (such as on the opening lap):
      • Expect cars to be much closer to you and varying in speed due to all the others around so try to leave a tad more space.
      • Assume there are cars in your blind spots and and on the other side of visible cars until the pack spreads out more.
      • In braking zones you must brake SIGNIFICANTLY earlier than you would in general racing.
      • Avoid sudden direction changes unless you are sure you are well clear.
      • If on a straight section don't drift - stay straight.
      • Approach each situation with caution but execute your driving with intelligence.
      • If you need to redress in this tight pack situation keep going until you can move out of the traffic safely before slowing down
    • Qualifying format - We will continue with the split qualifying format:
      • Qualifying sessions are 20 minutes long and split into two 10 minute segments.
      • Segment 1 is exclusively for GT4's.
      • Segment 2 is exclusively for GT3's.
      • The first race will start at approximately 9:20pm AEDT.
Drivers who's qualifying segment is not active MUST NOT exit the pits during that time. GT3 drivers may only cross the pit exit line when the time remaining ticks down to 10 minutes or less. At this point GT4 drivers can complete the lap they are on but then MUST move off track and immediately teleport back to pits. GT4 drivers who start a lap after the 10 minutes remaining mark, and GT3 drivers who cross the pit exit line before the 10 minutes remaining mark will be subject to the following penalties:
      • 1st offence: driver will be teleported back to pits and warned (momentary DSQ).
      • 2nd offence: driver will be disqualified from the qualifying session.
      • 3rd offence: driver will be disqualified from the entire round (including any previous race).
NOTE: GT3 drivers on their first outlap must take extra care not to impede GT4 drivers on their final flying lap. Penalties may apply.
    • Discord voice chat rules and etiquette:
      • if you intend to chat you MUST use push-to-talk. No-none wants to hear your gear clicks, heavy breathing or barking dog in the background.
      • non-excessive chat and banter is OK in Practice sessions.
      • There should be minimal chat in Qualifying sessions - essential questions, statements, apologies etc. only.
      • There should be minimal chat in Race sessions - essential questions, statements, apologies etc. only.
      • If you become frustrated or angry at yourself or another driver DO NOT PUSH YOUR TALK BUTTON. Keep it private!
      • DO NOT CONDUCT ARGUMENTS OVER VOICE CHAT. Sort it out later!
      • ABUSE WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. There's no place for that stuff at Rooz!
      • Please wait until ALL drivers have completed the final lap of a race before discussing your race.
      • Admins may speak at any time in any session for obvious reasons.
    • Optional use of indicators - Should drivers wish to use indicators to assist with managing lapped traffic, they are to be used as they are used on the road - i.e. you should indicate which way you are going - if you indicate left, you go left. REMEMBER TO TURN THEM OFF AGAIN.
    • All drivers should read the Rooz Etiquette guide and Rules & Regs linked below before the start of Round 1.
    • Enjoy the battles with others and yourself :)

    MULTICLASS BRIEFING NOTES
    • Feedback from previous rounds has been very positive overall but has highlighted a few important things. We accept that GT3's will aggressively pass GT4's at times - multiclass is challenging for both classes - however there is a limit to what is acceptable.

No matter how difficult it seems for GT3 drivers it is unquestionably more difficult for GT4's. Let us be clear here - GT3 cars have no superior 'rank' to GT4 cars. Blue flag rules apply only because of the speed differential. GT4's have the same 'rights' to the track as GT3's and must not be hustled out of the way. Even a very aware GT4 driver can miss spotting fast moving GT3's especially if battle packs are involved.

On the flip-side GT4's must make sure their movements are predictable when GT3's are in their vicinity. They should also make good use of their mirrors, the realtime display, the trackmap, the radar, the spotter and glancing to ensure awareness (the Crew Chief app is also excellent).

We do understand that incidents will occasionally occur however it is the careless or repetitive incidents that are unacceptable and will incur warnings or penalties.

      So in summary:
      • GT4's do not have to come off the racing line to let a GT3 through. It is up to the GT3 to find a CLEAN way to pass (hint - straights are best).
      • GT4's have to brake for corners earlier than GT3's but this is not an invitation TO DIVE BOMB TO THE APEX forcing the GT4 to delay their turn in. Please use care and respect.
      • GT4's may choose to give way to a GT3 early but must be clear in conveying that intention (eg. move off the racing line well before a corner).
      • GT4's must also use care and respect when GT3 drivers are trying to pass
      • All drivers are encouraged to report other drivers who repeatedly flout these rules and guidelines. A report does not need to be a protest and can be done via direct message to an admin on the forum or Discord.

    CUSTOM PAINTED SKINS
Unfortunately due to the serious "join freeze" or "join lag" issue we are currently not allowing the use of custom painted skins for Season 4. Specifically we are talking about skins painted externally and saved as PNG files that are added to ACC.

We love the idea of custom painted skins and would dearly love to add this rich feature to our league but ultimately the quality of the racing must come first. We have discussed at length a number of ideas and methodologies to try to overcome the problem but these involve arrangements which add complexity for the admin team as well as all drivers involved in the season and still may not result in overcoming the problem. If the situation improves significantly either through better support within ACC or through the community arriving at workable solutions then we will certainly look at allowing custom painted skins into our Monday night league racing.

If you also love custom painted skins then please help us out by searching high and low for real solutions, and by all means feel free to do some testing on our servers including during our Wednesday fun practice nights.

At this stage we are not restricting the use of the in-game editor for creating custom colour schemes. This may change if we find that even that system causes serious join lag issues.

NOTE: As we cannot block the use of skins at the server level we strongly suggest all drivers who sign up to Season 4 remove all custom painted skins from their game installation folders as a precaution. If a custom painted skin has been accidently left selected on a driver's car when they enter the S4 server during a qualifying session causing join lag they will be immediately disqualified from the round. Any driver that has a copy of that joining driver's selected skin will experience a large join lag as that image is loaded into memory. Every other driver on the server may experience some level of 'join lag' even if they have zero customs skins in their game.

    Thanks for racing at RaceOnOz
    :)

2 hours of going to the pits for repairs for me I'd suspect.

I'll be amazed of I don't do some self inflicted damage. I can't remember if I read it somewhere or not but if when we wreck during the race are we allowed to teleport to pits or do we have to drive back

Depending where it is an how bad the damage is you’re usually better off taking the pain of driving back to the pits. You pretty much automatically lose a lap by teleporting because it takes you to the beginning of the lap you teleported from and with the locked pit time for repairs you probably lose 2 laps or possibly even more.

70 minutes is the default, you should run into fuel/tyre issues before then anyway. Even if stint length is turned off in the server setting a few people got penalties in the 2.4hr because of Kunos.

    Christ, what a race.

Firstly congrats to @WALLZY for taking out the Silver cups

Thoroughly gutted with the result, I really had a great start to the race and the pace I had was super hot even without trying to squeeze out quali laps, passing was honestly a breeze since my top speed was bonkers! The hardest part was deciding when to pull out of the slip-stream because it was so strong.

First little incident I had was when showing my nose to @nanlatt in the chase, by his own words he went deep and I followed him in sympathy costing us probably about 3 places from our starting spots but the race was looking to be a lot of fun from this point.

Unfortunately it started to fall apart a little bit after that, when lapping Krunch I got offline and turned in too much at the entry to the cutting and took a hefty but drivable amount of damage but took a long time to turn around. Later in the first stint I ran wide into the wall at the top of the mountain and the additional damage was as the engineer on the radio said 'Severe'. This was about 30 minute into the race so I went to make my stop which about ~1:10 with tyres and chucked in all the fuel I could the proceeded to actually have a cracking middle stint, I was very happy with how I drove in the middle of race. It turns out there is a fuel map on the Honda which is like 1% slower and literally saves me no fuel, so my plan of trying to do a 90 minute stint to the end was ruined!

I had enough fuel to get to about 20 minutes remaining and then made my stop but I kept my tires since getting a fresh set would cost me an extra 5 seconds since the fuel time was fixed , so I just went back on the track because I needed every possible second to try and keep the Silver Enduro Cup alive. :( Turns out I didn't put enough fuel in my stop anyway since I had to shift gears early for the last two laps but that didn't stop me from passing @Nickysticks on the second last lap. I'm not sure if Blyth was saving fuel or had damage but I gained so much time on the last lap and was really close coming into the chase (a move may have been on into the last corner) but I put too much throttle in and spun giving Nicky back the position.

I had a great time passing the GT4's in the race. It was really challenging and I never personally had an issue except for the laps where I had to wait for the entire mountain to get though because we weren't on the same wavelength about where were going to pass, otherwise thanks to everyone who made this easy.

To the admins, thanks for a great season. It all seemed to run fairly well but I will forever curse the fixed fuel time from this day forward!!!!!!! Thanks to everyone who raced as well, this was my first proper season back in simracing after like 6 or 7 years and whilst I curse my inconsistency it's good to see how I improved from the start and look forward to racing with you all again.

@CornfordCaster Fuel maps in the Honda are sadly broken... none save any fuel, they do make you slower though, especially the safety car map, but still full fuel usage even in that one

    Sorry @Mael
I apologise for my outburst over the mic last night mate, you may have received the full brunt of my season long GT4 frustration, especially when i have never been in such a good strong position to win a race, carrying a bit too much emotion when racing as well.
In regards to the incident I thought you being on the inside and off the race line after just being lapped by Steve with a very shallow entry to the next high speed corner that you might have backed off a bit to let the race leaders through, I even gave some room off the apex but it clearly wasn't enough. I also had the pressure of Henderson on my tail so it was a tricky situation but lesson learnt, even more patience and space required around bloody GT4's :)

I had a good race (only nearly lost it once in the dipper and scraped the wall) and thoroughly enjoyed the season. Big grids, great racers and the mixed class racing really spiced things up. A big thanks to Steve, krunch and the team for putting it all together.

About 45min continuous racing on this track, that's more than expected. I didn't see a chance making it through the race...thought I run the car into a wall somewhere. However, it came a bit differently than expected. A slight contact with Nichols in his GT4 Porsche sent me into the wall. Initially I thought it was his fault, but when watching the replay I realised I misjudged the situation there at the 1st right hander up the hill...I thought I gave him more space. Of course I had to move left in order to get the best possible entry into this turn, but I moved more left than I thought I did...I'm using a triple setup with 180deg FOV and still struggle to figure out where exactly I am on track...maybe these VR goggles are better in that respect. It was a very slight contact and I pretty much passed him already, but hitting the wall then wrecked my car.
Thanks Paul for redressing early in the race. A car lost control and spun on track in front of me and I had to slow down...I guess you couldn't see that and were surprised by me being a bit slow at this spot.
Done all races, but still had I think 3 of them I didn't finish because of pretty stupid things happening. First ACC racing...should get better.
Thanks to the team putting this together so well and congrats to the guys on the podium :).

What a way to finish the season!

Bathurst is always a hugely challenging track...and an enduro at Bathurst is monster ask for anyone. Add multi-class onto that and I am amazed at how well that went, and at the great driving from all. There were a few incidents, and I'm sure some frustrating moments - but what an experience. The ups and downs and the risks of mistakes and opportunities they present are what makes this exciting and why racing is so great. In particular this track is just so...extreme!

This was my best night of racing ever...no question. I bagged my first pole position which was a total surprise. Extremely happy with that and the car was feeling amazing in FP and Q. I had made some good progress during the Wednesday practice with the set up and found a great balance for the car overall. The aggressive set up is often very spongey with the merc and when there are sections with rapid direction changes, like the downhill section through the esses and then later the chase, the car will get very out of shape and imprecise. Stiffening up the rear, adding a touch of downforce, adjusting ride height plus removing some toe at the rear seemed to get it perfectly poised and I had even had 2:12's in the delta during Q although I wasn't able to print one of those.

This made me even more nervous than normal starting the race from a very unfamiliar position at the front of the GT4 field. I got trapped on the outside at T1 and held up a little as the GT3's ahead were bunched up tight and also held up - which allowed Talbot to get out in front and Mironenko to follow, I dropped back to 4th position and also critically behind Mr Vandelay who I knew I had to finish in front of in order to win the Silver championship. Over the next few laps there were some position swaps up ahead and I managed to catch and get past Talbot and Vandelay, and get right on Mironenko's bumper. I was working up to an overtake attempt when the GT3's started to come through and I fell 3 seconds back after getting caught in some awkward passing spots.

Mironenko went in for an early pit which left me out in front and I could see Frost battling his way through those behind to eventually end up on my tail. He was catching me in clean air, but the traffic was somehow helping me to keep him back, with the gap fluctuating between 1 second and 4 seconds for about twenty minutes before we both went in for our pit. I came out in second about 8 seconds behind Mironenko and resolved myself to chase him down and catch him - only to hear exclamations of pain in discord and I was suddenly in first position (not sure what happened but it didn't sound pleasant!). A few laps later, it became clear that Frost had also had an incident and after all of the pits were completed, I found myself in front with a sizable gap - so I just got my head down and focused on being safe, consistent and 'fast enough' - to the end. Getting the win felt amazing, and although I had good pace in qualy I am under no illusion that it would have been very different without the incidents that favoured me, including Tez's start from the pits.

Thanks to all for a fantastic last race and a great season - really enjoyed it - and a special thanks to the other admins who have done an amazing job. @nanlatt , @Flamebadger, @krunch - you guys are legends and worked so hard on this, well done fellas.

Also congrats to the class winners and podiums of course! So much talent on display every week - awesome.

I definitely lucked into getting P2 here, my result definitely did not reflect the lack of pace I had with the guys around me! I also had no idea how I managed to get second in Quali either, I guess the porsche is ok over 1 lap lol

After having a really good start (finally!) it became pretty obvious that I just didn't have the straightline speed to hold off the fast charging cars around me. I didn't really fight it too hard as I just wanted to get to the end without any issues, I'd already locked out P3 in the championship with only a slight, mathematical, chance of pipping Ryan Duong for P2 so I was just out there for fun. What was a lot of fun was having nearly a race long battle with Vandelay @fRZn . There was one point where he got past after pretty much a half lap of door to door action. Great driving mate, I really enjoyed that! Unfortunately he got taken out when lapping a backmarker which took him out of a much deserved podium. Then somehow I found myself in second, I assumed at the time that others in front had had some incidents, so I just cruised home to finish in second place.

Massive thank you to the admin team @SteveDrivingSlowly, @Flamebadger, @krunch and @nanlatt (apologies if I've missed someone), I had an absolute blast this season. I loved the multiclass factor this time, lots of fun
