If the season is longer (which I have no issue with), I'd advocate a second drop round rather than removing it.
As you say, some folks have commitments, so having a couple of drop rounds might encourage people to stick with a season as they'll still have a chance at success even if they miss a couple of races.
For those who do show up, it just means that if they have a bad race or two, it won't impact their season as much.
Always nice to have a little get out of jail free card if you get caught up in an incident or just have a shocker of a race.

Id look at it as having a winter season and a summer season.
So you get to seasons per year, plus your ROC and other special events. Would be enough id think.
Means you can spread the rounds out and holidays, long weekends etc arent as much of an issue.

Also means the amount of admin/setup is reduced in the long run

Without a detailed look, I'll suggest 3 x 10 to 12 week seasons. As Hat says, it's then only 3 lots of set-up admin and still allows for different cars to be selected and run. Fewer seasons (2) means only 2 cars pe ryear. On the plus side, it'd certainly give you time to get used to a car, however for those that might struggle it could mean a greater drop out rate. That might be tempered by spread out season as Adza suggests.

Whilst it does mean 2 formal seasons per year, ir also allows space for more one off events and occasional other series like a 4 round enduro series (thatd be awesome).

Like all other sports, its seasonal and you could have a winter season thats April-Aug, and a summer season thats Oct-Mar.
This allows for some consistency for competitors and admin.

@Viperzed i note the LeSarth enduro on the 9th June.
This is also Kings Bday long weekend, tipping alot may be unavailable, i know im away :(

Any way to push the calendar back. Have a 2 week break going into LeSarth alos allows for more practice leading into this special event...

to clarify a few things, as im looking at the room settings, and if its been discussed before ive perhaps missed it..

'setting' off- does this mean we wont have brake balance adjustment?

'rolling start manual'- can we clarify what the process is for this, i remember someone mentioning 130kph starts, but where is the speedo on this car? i cant see it in VR.
Is there a safety car line which we can boot off from on the rolling starts? etc

Setting off means that the option is blanked out because we aren't running BOP. We will still have brake balance!

I'll be making a post later this week about the rolling start procedure. Rather lucky that Daytona is one of the easier ones for it. There will be a "Start Zone" where I will outline the first line to mark the beginning of the start zone, and the second line will be the start finish line. The leader can go at ANY point in the start zone however if he hasn't gone by the time they cross the second line, the race begins immediately.

@Viperzed one point in the regs that was not clear: when OP says 29 laps should the race be set to 30 laps to account for the formation lap or leave as per OP so essentially 28 laps of racing? Div2 went with the latter for round 1, but would be good to clarify please

Ahhhhh so it should've been the 29 Laps, the calculations were done with a rough formation lap time in mind.

So race distance is set as per OP? 29 laps = 29 laps? In cling formation?
