Not my division but I use cable and I highly recommend it for anyone that can hook it up to their PS4/5

I'm cable too. Costs nothing to have a sparky come over and put in some ethernet wall plugs

    Im cable also.

Bunnings sell wall plug adaptors for ethernet
You dont need a sparky. Just be willing to climb through the roof or underhouse

Cable. Ethernet-over-Power (EoP) adapters to get the signal upstairs, then via a switch to the PS5. The downstairs EoP is directly into the modem/router.

Putting my some old now Communications/Electronic engineers hat on, WiFi in theory ought not to be an issue. The bitrate of the WiFi channel will be way higher than that of the underlying ISP provided internet connection. There's enough evidence out there from players that this is an issue with GT7, despite many saying otherwise e.g. it's your in-house setup etc.

However, here's some things you might try.
DNS - set your PS4/5 DNS settings manually, bypassing your modem/router. I've got my PS5 primary DNS set to the OpenDNS server and the secondary set to my ISP's primary DNS server (see below).

Do the port forwarding thing as covered in other forum posts, but basically in your router, give your console a fixed IP address and then point these ports to that address.
    TCP
    Port 1935
    Port range 3478 to 3480
    UDP
    Ports range 3478 to 3479

There's a claim on GT Planet that the Sport Mode races are run on PD's servers and that lobbies are P2P, which would go a long way to explaining the lag, especially when you get mixed PS4/5 players in the same lobby.

What's interesting so far is that the ones on WiFi seem to have exhibit the lag the most. Cabled people seem to be less jittery or laggy

I'm on WiFi and there's some slight lag at times but nothing too crazy.

A chain is as strong as its weakest link.
    • WiFi is definitely a weak link and vulnerable to interference hits from other Wifi's/devices around.
    • A Ethernet connection has no interference and constant and consistant data flow to and from your modem, and hence the preferred connection for anything fixed... TV etc blah blah
    • RSP's are also subjective, and there are some better than others in how they manage their internet (WWW) connectivity NBNCo is not providing internet per se, only access from your premise to your RSP it is your RSP that is responsible for this function. of internet connectivity to the Sony Servers & WWW etc. Different RSP's manage gaming better than others (especially with regard to Latency)
    • Polyphony and Sony Servers maybe having a performance bottleneck due the enhanced GT7 server requirements over GT sports, I suspect they are utilising the same server space for the 2 platforms and therefore contending for the same valuable space. 2nd theory is they may have not calculated the correct dimensioning of their servers and interconnectivity between servers. .Possibly to cut down on Server Costs as well
    • Individual playstation processor performance maybe a factor but I will put on bottom of list, this. could also include PS4 vs PS5 functionality.a clearing of caches may help here
Take into account all the above , and you can see it could be complex to solve.
In your control is the home connectivity and local performance:
    1. clear caches
    2. Ethernet over Wifi if possible
    3. Choice of RSP and or Good Quality Modem/ Settings
    4. A decent up/down Internet plan.. 50/20 as a minimum
    5. Avoid Mobile networks as primary internet choice

Current common standards are Cat 5e and Cat 6 which have nominal max length of 100m. So long as they're not kinked and turn radius is kept minimized, you're good for 10Gbps up to 55m length.

I'll run my super long cable and see if it improves things.

I think it will, it's just disappointing that my network was fine with GTS but isn't seemingly with GT7

I have the same sentiments, just trying to see if we can improve our races.

The Ethernet standard states that you should not exceed 100m per cable.
