    Arnold Palmer Invitational
    January 6 - 12
Course: Bay Hill Club & Lodge
    Par: 72
    Rounds: 4
Difficulty: 6/10: A course you shouldn’t underestimate. Narrow fairways, lakes, hard & fast greens and tight approaches can cause more than a few headaches.

A fantastic golfing estate in Florida owned by the family of golf legend Arnold “The King” Palmer, Bay Hill is a standard setter for what a championship golf course should be. Recently reverted back to a Par 72, the course is famous for its long Par 3’s and a giant lake that cradles Holes 3, 6 & 11. The course was a particular stomping ground for Tiger Woods, winning the Invitational 6 times including 4 times consecutively from 2000-2003. Will you be the next owner of The King’s Red Sweater?

(I have photographed the greens facing the fairway this time, please comment if you prefer it like this or the old way!)

    Bay Hill Front 9

    Hole 1: Par 4, 422m, HCP 4
A tight fairway and 2 large bunkers on the right create the dogleg left 1st hole. A draw on the left side of the fairway is the ideal line, to leave a short iron into a well protected green that slopes off to the left.

    Hole 2: Par 3, 221m, HCP 18
While rated as the easiest hole on the course, it’s actually a real beast of a Par 3. You must fire a deadly accurate fairway wood into a shallow green and hope the ball carries the bunker but doesn’t roll off the green. Par is a great score here.

    Hole 3: Par 4, 397m, HCP 14
The 3rd makes a dogleg left around a giant lake. Careful placement of your tee shot is required to set up an approach shot to a green that is protected by the lake and 3 bunkers. Attack the pin if it’s located to the right.

    Hole 4: Par 5, 539m, HCP 10
Course renovations has resulted in the 4th being restored to its former glory as a tight medium length Par 5. The bunkers on the left don’t come into play unless the wind is at your back. A small stream runs all along the right until 50m short of the green. Eagles are a possibility, but uncommon due to the green being protected by small bunkers.

    Hole 5: Par 4, 357m, HCP 8
The tee shot is critical at #5. The landing area is narrow due to bunkers on both sides. Best to take a 3 wood off the tee and leave a short iron approach into a deep green.

    Hole 6: Par 5, 507m, HCP 2
The 6th curls around the giant lake like a horseshoe. Draw the ball off the tee in order to have a chance at getting on this green in two. Otherwise play it safe to leave an easy approach into a very protected green. Play this hole intelligently to avoid your score entering double digits.

    Hole 7: Par 3, 182m, HCP 16
This is the shortest Par 3 at Bay Hill, but by no means is it an easy hole. Take a mid iron or hybrid into a green with various pin locations protected by a series of large bunkers.

    Hole 8: Par 4, 421m, HCP 6
This is a tough dogleg right which forces you to drive the ball on the left side of the fairway, taking on a large bunker. The approach is over another lake to a green that slopes back towards you.

    Hole 9: Par 4, 439m, HCP 12
The longest Par 4 at Bay Hill, the drive on this narrow and slight dogleg left must clear the bunker on the left. This will leave you a mid iron into the large but well guarded green. Putting is always a challenge on this green especially when the pin is rear right. [IMG]

    Bay Hill Back 9

    Hole 10: Par 4, 366m, HCP 13
Renovations have made the dogleg on this hole significantly less sharp over the years. Those confident with Driver can blast their tee shot over the trees to set up a wedge into a big green protected by 2 large bunkers. This hole is a great birdie opportunity without a doubt.

    Hole 11: Par 4, 401m, HCP 9
See Hole 3. Just with one less bunker and a blunter dogleg.

    Hole 12: Par 5, 525m, HCP 3
The 12th is a difficult Par 5. The drive needs to be very accurate to split the bunkers protecting the fairway. The green is heavily protected on all sides to fend off those daring to attack the green in two. Are you brave enough to go for an eagle?

    Hole 13: Par 4, 338m, HCP 1
The 13th is always a hole to watch. You can’t take full power off the tee so use a 3 wood. You’ll have an easier full swing wedge into a long and narrow green. Classed as the hardest hole on the course, those who find the rough on the tee shot will find out why as they hear their ball land in the lake that protects the front of the green.

    Hole 14: Par 3, 197m, HCP 17
Another renovated hole, this Par 3 demands a fairway wood into a small green protected by 3 deep bunkers. This hole becomes a nightmare when a strong crosswind is blowing.

    Hole 15: Par 4, 427m, HCP 5
A difficult dogleg right that forces the player to play along the left side of the fairway. Carrying the bunker will leave a much easier second shot if it finds the short stuff. The green is undulated everywhere, making long putts very tricky indeed. Watch out for those 3 bunkers too.

    Hole 16: Par 5, 467m, HCP 7
This hole marks the start of one of the best finishing stretches anywhere in the world. A long drive can reward you with a possible eagle chance with anything from a hybrid, fairway wood or long iron into a green protected by bunkers and yet another lake. The API is won or lost here on most occasions.

    Hole 17, Par 3, 202m, HCP 15
The last of the majorly renovated holes, the 17th is a tricky Par 3 with a small green by Bay Hill standards. It is protected on 3 sides by water with bunkers left, and a giant one short. It’s been made slightly easier, but 17 still has the ability to cause inaccurate players major problems.

    Hole 18, Par 4, 418m, HCP 11
The fairway on this finishing hole has been narrowed to create an even tougher approach to an already tough approach shot. Pins front provide a birdie chance, but pins back right will demand an extremely accurate iron shot that carries the water into this tight bean shaped green. Finding the bunkers rear will leave a perilously difficult escape.

quick question: there are 4 Cypress Point tracks with a par of 72.
2 are called Cypress Point & 2 others are called Cypress Point Club {L}2019 & Cypress Point Club (these last 2 have 9,855 & 59,098 plays respectively)
    which one is it?

I'd be up there with @nige if I had my putts drop. Missed about 25 putts by less than a cm over the 2 rounds

2K removed them from the search function.

Go to the schedule and press Triangle and a pop up for course details will appear. Select that, then Favourite the course. It’ll appear in your favourites list now.

Huge congrats to @Stew Wilson for scoring ROOZ’s first Hole In One on (I assume) the Par 3 14th! Would love to see some footage of that shot!

    BCG Classic
    Jan 13 - 19
    Course: Cypress Point Club
    Par: 72
    Rounds: 4
Difficulty: 2/10: At just 6000 metres, this is one of the shortest courses you’ll play on the ROOZ tour. There are no less than SIX genuine eagle chances per round, each Par 5 is reachable in two and there are 2 drivable Par 4’s. Some greens do offer a challenge, but if you can hit enough greens and you’re good with the flat stick, this course should be a total milk run.

Another masterpiece in the Monterey, Cypress Point is perhaps with the exception of Augusta, the most exclusive golf course in the world. The course was a regular on the PGA Tour as part of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am until 1990 when the club refused to comply with anti discrimination guidelines. A course defined by its bunkering, each round of Cypress Point is an unforgettable experience that just gets better and better, hole by hole.

    Cypress Point Club Front 9

    Hole 1: Par 4, 383m, HCP 4
Blast your drive over the trees on this downhill Par 4 to leave an easy pitch onto a green that slopes severely from right to left. Aim below the hole to leave a makable birdie putt.

    Hole 2: Par 5, 515m, HCP 14
Keep your tee shot right on this uphill Par 5 to leave an open approach to a small green. The fairway bunkers don’t come into play so there is no reason to not go for the green. A series of bunkers left and right protect the green. Use the banking on the right to your advantage.

    Hole 3: Par 3, 141m, HCP 8
Depending on the pin placement, this hole can be very easy or very hard. Fire a short iron into a green with a hard slope toward the centre and a false front. Bunkers protect the green on all sides. A bogey will be very costly here.

    Hole 4: Par 4, 356m, HCP 6
The 4th is an uphill Par 4 that heads inland. Keep the tee shot to the left to avoid the bunkers on the right approximately 250m from the tee. The bunkers that protect this green don’t come into play as you will be attacking this green with a wedge in hand. The green slopes massively toward the front, so take your time lining up your putt.

    Hole 5: Par 5, 449m, HCP 18
Those looking to make up strokes will be gunning for a birdie or even better on this very short dogleg left Par 5. Land your drive between the bunkers to leave a short iron into a two tiered green. Get it on the right level and an eagle chance beckons.

    Hole 6: Par 5, 479m, HCP 16
Another short dogleg left Par 5, if you can thread the needle off the tee you’ll have an easier shot into this tiny green. Lay up short of the bunker and you’ll have a long second. The downhill shot needs to be hit dead on to avoid rolling off to the side, and the waste area to the rear. Once again this is a hole that provides an easy birdie.

    Hole 7: Par 3, 156m, HCP 2
The 7th is a Par 3 that requires a well controlled iron shot. A huge false front is the danger here as coming up short will see your ball roll back down the hill and leave you with an extremely difficult up and down. Par is adequate here.

    Hole 8: Par 4, 329m, HCP 12
8 is an exciting short Par 4. The safe play is to hit an iron off the tee, but risk takers will hit a faded driver into a receptive green. However those going for an eagle will likely have a long putt with severe slopes everywhere. Pins to the left will make for a much easier approach.

    Hole 9: Par 4, 267m, HCP 10
Yet another short hole, you probably wont hold the green going for it off the tee. The safe play with a fairway wood will still leave a short pitch onto an extremely shallow green that slopes hard right. Eagles are a rarity here if the pin is tucked to the left, so playing safe isn’t frowned upon… to most.
