Bit nervous in the direction they take this in. I mean if it's more Dirt Rally with more/longer stages, with similar physics (maybe play with the tarmac feel a bit) I'd be the happiest sim racer. Dirt Rally was actually the title that got me to where I am now with sim racing. I didn't even know FFB wheels existed until I bought this being a big fan of rally 'games'. I felt I couldn't do the title justice with a controller (I smashed Dirt 3 with a pad on both Xbox and then PC) so I looked into it a little more. Much respect to it for the hobby it has now got me massively involved in, from racing to the hardware to the community. Here's hoping they correct the abortion that Dirt 4 ended up being and give the people that made DR such a huge unexpected success something back.
I think they know alot of us out here feel this way... dirt 4 is 75% off on the steam store a little more than 6 months after release... it's crashed and burned. Out from the ashes will come Dirt Rally 2.0! To be fair Dirt4 never claimed to be a sucessor to DR, and that the 'Rally' title would be reserved for the sim direction. End of the video release date is Feb 2019. I'm hoping it comes on steam early access before then.
26th of February 2019, though the deluxe edition will be released 4 days early. Here's some replay footage of the Quattro in Argentina... bit choppy framerate wise (but that's to be expected). Stages look like they're based on the real events again - I think that's the El Condor stage from WRC Rally Argentina. Also, how sweet does that Quattro sound
Dirty Rally 2.0 So far it's good - different environmental feel to DR1 with new locations but familiar car handling. Wet surface handling feels more authentic. FFB feels a bit bland though. With some tweaking to reduce friction values (in-game damping) it feels a bit better but still not as good as DR1. Hopefully this will be improved with patches as DR1 was. Tyre choices is a nice improvement too. There's different compounds, option to carry spares, and tyre wear with option to replace worn tyres in service areas. Lighting and wet/muddy surfaces look awesome which is a nice improvement. Possibly at the expense of some texture quality - overall I would say for the a better more authentic look though be interested to see what others think. Unfortunately it proved too much for my wheel after about an hour! My wheel gave up just as I committed to the online daily event (no restart). Servo motor cogs are worn TS and just slipping on the wheel gear. Have to wait for the new one to turn up before I can reveal more and probably start from scratch on the FFB.. At this point I can see myself still playing this along side DR1 although with more time in DR2 it might win out. Farewell my old friend G25!
Only had a quick bash around Australia and New Zealand so far. Just as much fun as DR1 was and just as brutal. Is it just me or are the tracks even narrower than the first game?
Yea I reckon the NZ tracks were tight but that's probably about right and fairly consistent with ridge lines in DR1's Greece stages. Could also be your field of view setting. I set mine quite a bit narrower than default.
Does anyone know if DR 2.0 supports motion control / tilt to steer on the DS4 or is it just the analogue sticks only?
Looks like it really might have been overly heavy FFB in DR2 that was the final straw for my G25.... so If you're giving this a go I'd recommend dialling down the FFB settings so you don't loose an arm! Having given both DR1 and DR2 a quick whirl on my new Fanatec wheel FFB is definitely stronger than DR1 (on similar in game settings), and far from authentic especially in the wee mini.
IKR I had a mini.... That's what's wrong with DR2 though it is the dynamic FFB that's too strong E.g. correcting out of a counter steer. The self aligning torque is waaay to strong. Dialled that back to 45. And centre spring force back to 70. That made it feel a bit more natural and wasn't such a strong man effort to save a slide in the escort. Unfortunately the suspension force doesn't seem to be active. Changing this setting makes no difference. I think that's why the surface and over bumps feedback feels dead and leaves the overall ffb feeling informative but bland.
Some good info to help you tune balance your FPS with graphics quality as the game is quite demanding. https://www.game-debate.com/news/26...breakdown-and-most-important-graphics-options I had already disabled motion blur and figured out hat shadows and reflections weren't having as big of an impact as I expected.... Will be having a play with the ground cover setting after seeing this. Fortunately even relatively low FPS doesn't suffer from stutter so still seems quite smooth.
Pretty nice touch that leaderboards in Dirt Rally 2 are multiplatform. When leagues are released could be good incentive to rekindle something on RooZ, like the Monaco run set up by @Mustafur http://raceonoz.com/forums/index.php?threads/ps4-pc-monaco-rally-mini-series-modern-rally-cars.2333/ @Hatfield. Who else is running DR2?
