Yeah i agree. I lived in adelaide so i used to have daylight savings. Stupidest thing ever, but anyway no big deal. Hopefully everythings going smoothly here so i can get on ontime.

Should be able to make it but we'll see, next 4 weeks will be hit and miss due to exams

1) Just race, it's a 1 hour study break!
2) It's an awesome series so it'll be fun regardless of where you end up so it's never a wasted hour

Nope, just one example of the genius minds coming together of M.Schumacher, Ross Brawn, Jean Todt and Chris Dyer, in 2004 Ferrari had so much speed and since they could refuel they had much more flexibilty in strategy. Unfortunately these days it's unlikely you'll ever see this happening even from a Mercedes due to a lack of refuelling and tyres that fall to pieces, not to mention Magny Cours is no longer on the calendar. Another example of this is Hungary 1998, where Schumi put in about 20 consecutive laps on maximum attack to beat the superior McLarens who were 2 stopping to Schumacher's 3.

yeah i agree with the notion that it will never be like that again. the old days were the best in F1, now its so much more robotic, for lack of a better word.

I'm not sure how the wider tyres next year will effect strategy, but I am looking forward to seeing F1 cars with F1 tyres on them again!

The new tyres and aero regs (bigger, better wings, bigger diffuser etc..) will have a huge impact on the car performance, the big rear tyres will mean they can get on the throttle earlier. And I would assume that more rubber would mean less overheating at tracks like China.

how do we think it will help/hinder RBR's attempts at catching the Mercs, if any?

You only have to look how far down the track RBR are from Renault to see how good their chassis/aero is.
The full re-design is only going to help them close the gap to Merc, and might even give them an edge.

My understanding is that the Merc engine gives a particular advantage for acceleration and drivability out of slow corners. So it would make sense that higher corner speeds would reduce this advantage a bit.

Merc engine is least 'peaky' of the F1 engines, plus they can run it harder for longer. Very smooth torque curve apparently meaning they can basically just hit the gas pedal earlier than anyone else and not worry as much about spinning up the rears.

T500s are to damn pricey god dammit. Sigh.... replacement G29 #3 is ready for tonight if it even survives qualifying
